There is probably no other piece of gear in the 50+ ouears of guitar pedal history that has caused more conversation, speculation and interest than the Klon Centaur overdrive. Love it or hate it, it is what it is. It has spawned countless clones from DIY builders all the way to big powerhouse pedal companies and in our opinion is seated to be as legendary as the Tubescreamer in the decades to come. The KTR is a more mass produced but still 100% authorized version of the famous Klon to the original specs including those sacred and secret Germanium diodes we have all grown to love. We have loved the Klon way before it was the legend it has become and even made a faithful replica back in the day, this mod stays true to what we all love about the circuit while giving you some very useful and fresh options that you are going to love.
The Shamrock mod keeps all of its mojo fully intact while giving you six amazing tonal tweaks that you will have a hard time knowing you lived without. There are two external low-profile mini-toggles added to the side of the pedal (no they can’t be placed on top or another location as the circuit board and mechanical design only allow the spot we have chosen). The top toggle we like to call the “Tri-Gain” adjust between three clipping arrangements that to our knowledge have not been done on the Centaur circuit. We started with about 50 possible options on a breadboard and a week later ended with what we think is perfect, unique and super usable. When this toggle is "down" you are playing the magical diodes only found at the end of the rainbow at the end of the yellow brick road...in other words the "down" position is the stock KTR. These KTR diodes are nice and smooth, gainy and have a great natural breakup with the drive knob in the upper ranges. The "middle" position is a much more open/blunt setting that lends itself to some of the sweetest tones you have ever heard when pushing a dirty amp or another drive pedal. The "up" position gives you a really unique breakup that suits itself to players who love the Centaur for higher gain applications like we do. The bottom switch is what we like to call the “Punch” toggle. Essentially when this switch is flipped you will experience a boost in all frequencies as well as overall girth and power. If you use the Centaur as a boost or light overdrive you are going to really enjoy what this brings to the table.
For those that love the original Klon and the newer Klon KTR, the intention of this Mod is to offer you the ultimate Klon pedal...which of course starts with your authentic KTR pedal and ends with a box containing some really great options while preserving the original.
We are proud to have worked up an all original mod to what we consider an already magical circuit that deserves to be heard. Send us your KTR and we will add a few lucky charms to your rig.
